On Thursday, November 29, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) released a notice extending the deadline for furnishing 2018 Forms 1095-B and 1095-C from January 31, 2019 to March 4, 2019.
These extensions apply to all filers, including Applicable Large Employers, health insurers, and employers that sponsor self-insured health plans.
Due to this extension, some individual taxpayers may not receive a Form 1095-B or Form 1095-C by the time they are ready to file their 2018 tax return. Taxpayers do not need to wait to receive these forms before filing their returns.
The notice also extends good-faith transition relief from section 6721 and 6722 penalties for Tax Year 2018.
Important: This Notice does not extend the due date for electronic filing with the IRS, which remains as April 1, 2019. This is the date by which PROXUS must file client 1094 and 1095 forms.
